The Allen-Bradley 1746-C16 is a chassis interconnect cable which is 4ft in length. It connects the 1746 chassis to extend the backplane. It is mainly used when interconnecting the 1746-A4, 1746-A7, 1746-A10 or the 1746-A13 chassis. The 1746-C16 can connect chassis which are 0.914M and 1.27M apart in enclosure. In multiple rack settings, install the 1746-C16 before installing the power supply. The 1746-C16 is keyed to enhanced proper installations. The end of the cable that plugs into the left socket has the key on the outside of the connector while the opposite side of the cable has the key on the inside of the connector. After installation, the 1746-C16 should be effectively secured to prevent against the negative effects of shock/vibration. When connecting the 1746-C16, make sure it exits the chassis from the right-hand side of the rack. The right hand side of the rack holds the CPU.
The 1746-C16 has a rigid unbendable shrink wrap at the end of each side’s connector. This shrink wrap caters for strain relief. A minimum of 4 inches of clearance should be provided at the side of the chassis to give room for proper bending of the cable. The 1746-C16 is the longest chassis interconnecting cable recommended by Allen-Bradley. The 1746-C16 can be used in place of 1746-C7 or the 1746-C9. The 1746-C16 is the most appropriate when connecting racks one on top of the other with the 1746-P4 power supply. The 1746-C16 is used when linking modular style chassis.
