The Allen Bradley 1746-A4 is a four-slot chassis that is made to house processors from the SLC 500 family of programmable controllers. The 1746-A4 must have its own power supply, which can be mounted on the left side of the chassis. The 1746-A4 modular chassis holds the processor or I/O adapter module and the I/O modules. The modular chassis offers advanced flexibility during system configuration. For extension, three I/O chassis can be interconnected using chassis interconnect cables. The 1746-C7, 1746-C9, and 1746-C16 cables can be used for interconnecting.
The modules inside the 1746-A4 can be arranged in any order and in any side of the chassis. The required spacing for the modules inside the 1746-A4 is a minimum of 6.0 inches between the modules and the upper part of the chassis, a minimum of 4.0 inches between the modules and the right/left sides of the chassis, and 6.0-8.0 inches between chassis when more than one chassis is used.
When installing the 1746-A4 chassis, make holes in the enclosure’s back panel to introduce chassis mounting. Install the hardware for the top mounting tabs. Slide the chassis over the installed hardware and tighten the screws. Install the remaining hardware tab leaving the far right and left tabs open to cater for grounding. The 1746-A4 has a maximum backplane current of 10A. The chassis weighs 0.75kg when not loaded. Dimensions for the 1746-A4 are 177mm x 68mm x 145mm. The 1746-A4 has 0° C minimum operating temperature and 60° C maximum operating temperature.
