The Allen-Bradley PLC-5-46C is a ControlNet PLC processor with a protected memory. The processor’s user memory can accommodate a maximum of 48K words and it accepts a maximum of 2048 I/O. The PLC-5-46C provides ControlNet interfacing capabilities for SLC 500, Micrologix, and ControlLogix controllers. As with other PLC-5 processors and controllers, the PLC-5-46C allows architecture to be flexible and enables the users to include cost-effective connections to a wide range of modules and devices. The PLC-5-46C operates optimally at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius.
The PLC-5-46C is shipped with its battery although the battery does not come installed. The battery is then installed by the users while installing the PLC-5-46C ControlNet processor. Make sure to label the date of the installation of the battery on the barrel cover by using an erasable pen or pencil. The battery is primarily meant to support the memory which loses its contents when the power is switched off. The PLC-5-46C indicates a battery fault through the onboard BATT LED indicator. PLC-5 processors, including the PLC-5-46C, use switches (I/O chassis backplane) to set the last states for the outputs and the addressing with either 2-slot, 1-slot, or ½ slot configuration. Additionally, the switches are used to configure the memory (EEPROM) and to transfer the processor memory protection. The PLC-5-46C has data input and data output files that each accommodate a maximum of 3K words held in 3 consecutive data table files. Since the PLC-5-46C is a ControlNet processor, it stores its I/O data in the I/O image table or the Data Input or Data Output files. When data is stored in an output or input image table, the PLC-5-46C accommodates a maximum of 120 words for each table. The PLC-5-46C weighs 1.42 kilograms and it should be installed in the leftmost slot in either the 1771-A1B, 1771-A2B, 1771-A3B, 1771-A3B1, or the 1771-A4B chassis.
