The Allen Bradley PLC-5-20 Classic 1785 Programmable PLC-5 Controller is a processor module for the PLC-5 Classic family of programmable controllers which provides centralized control in a variety of industrial applications. This processor has a 16 K word memory capacity, with a total I/O capacity of 512 (512 complementary inputs or outputs), and it can also support up to 12 I/O chassis and up to 3 I/O racks. This processor is fitted on the 1-slot slot of 1771 I/O chassis, and this processor has a 2.5 Amps backplane current, with an overall heat dissipation of 44.8 BTU per hour. The PLC-5-20 processor has internal time-delay clock and calendar with timing accuracy of one program scan, and a typical variation of ± 20 seconds per month. This processor has 1 fixed Data Highway plus communication port, with a front panel port configured for DH+ and Remote I/O (Adapter or Scanner), and it also has 1 serial communication port configurable for RS-232 and 423 and RS-422A connection.
The PLC-5-20 is built to be compatible with Allen-Bradley 1771 I/O 8 points, 16 points and 32 point expansion modules, and it can address this module in 2, 1, and ½ slot configuration. It externally backs up the operation data using a 16 K word EEPROM module, and it uses a lithium battery module with a 2-year life span for memory backup. The PLC-5-20 is installed via the keying of pins 40/42 and pins 54/56 on the leftmost slot of the processor chassis, and when installed, it can resist a 30G operational shock for 11 milliseconds duration. The PLC-5-20 has a functional temperature range of 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, at 5 to 95% non-corrosive relative humidity, and it has a non-operating range of −40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. The PLC-5-20 weighs about 1.33 kilograms, and it is CSA and UL certified.
