The 3150-MCM communication module is an Allen-Bradley and Prosoft Technology Modbus communication module. It provides a Modbus interface for the Bulletin 1746 I/O devices from Allen-Bradley. The 3150-MCM Modbus module supports SLC 5/02 processors, 5/03 processors, 5/04 processors, and 5/05 processors. The module can be installed in a local rack or in an extended rack with a processor. It does not work in a remote rack with remote I/O links or scanners. The main components of the 3150-MCM module include a microcontroller, a Rockwell communication chipset, and interface ports. It features 2 serial ports, each of which can support a Modbus slave mode or Modbus master mode. The 3150-MCM module supports the transfer and storage of 4000 registers to the SLC/PLC data tables. Users can define memory mapping through the configuration of data tables. The 3150-MCM module supports RS-232C handshaking for applications such as SCADA modem/radio applications. The Modbus module supports RS-485/RS-422 connections for multi-drop applications with a maximum of 32 slaves for each port. It also supports packet radio and satellite communication. At 5 Volts from the backplane, the 3150-MCM module draws 0.15 Amps of current. At 24 Volts from the backplane, the module draws 0.04 Amps of current. The operating temperature range for the 3150-MCM module is from 0 degrees Celsius and 60 degrees Celsius. The storage temperature range is from -40 degrees Celsius and 85 degrees Celsius. The ports on the 3150-MCM module require DB-9 male connectors. The module contains a 3.6-volt battery. The battery in the 3150-MCM module can not be recharged but can be replaced. The shelf life of the battery is about 10 years. The 3150-MCM module is not hot-swappable. Rack power must be switched off before the 3150-MCM module is inserted or removed.
