The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1785-L86B Ethernet Programmable Controller from the PLC-5 series of products is a powerful device with many advanced features such as speed selection capabilities, email client capabilities, different approaches to handling IP addresses, an RJ-45 connector for communication, and many more. The PLC-5 controller has a maximum user words memory of 100k words, and it features a static RAM backed by a battery. This standard processor module has a protected memory and it is installed in a single 1771 I/O chassis slot with an I/O capacity of 3072. The total I/O include a maximum of 3072 of any mix. The controller’s main purpose is to process information and to serve as a controller for field device processes. The 1785-L86B fully programmable controller has one Ethernet channel and two DH+/remote I/O channels.
The 1785-L86B controller features a special EEPROM backup option for programming through the use of the 1785-ME16/-ME32/-ME64/-M100 memory modules. The PLC-5 Ethernet programmable controllers do not have a rated enclosure, but they are made in accordance with various standards for control equipment and industrial requirements. Those standards include several variations of the CSA, CE, UL, EtherNet/IP and C-Tick codes. The operating temperature of the controller should be within the range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) while the storage temperature should not fall below -40 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees Fahrenheit) or rise above 85 degrees Celsius (185 degrees Fahrenheit). The conducted RF immunity of the controller is at 10 Volts RMS with 1 kilohertz 80% sine-wave AM within a frequency range of 150 kilohertz to 80 megahertz. The power consumption of the controller is up to 3.6 Amps at 5 Volts DC and the power dissipation is a maximum of 18.9 Watts. The controller uses a lithium battery with the catalog number 1770-XYC. The battery can last up to 1.2 years if the controller is used at the recommended temperature range. The 1785-L86B controller weighs approximately 1.39 kilograms (3 pounds).
