The 1785-KE PLC-5 module is a Data Highway Plus (DH+) Communication Interface Module from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, and it can control an RS-232-C intelligent device through a DH+ network, because it is a communication module. This module contains an I/O rack as well as a single slot module that provides either Full-Duplex or Half-Duplex protocols on an Asynchronous link. The 1785-KE connects to RS-232-C devices by using an asynchronous RS-232-C connector port, a 15-pin female EIA D-shell on a module that uses the Data Terminal Interface Cable (1770-CG) or the modem interface cable (1770-C). It can connect to the Data Highway Plus (DH+) network with a 3-screw terminal block by using a Data Highway Plus drop-line cable (the Belden 9463).
This module has a transfer rate of 57,600 bits per second on the DH+, it communicates with the 1784-T50 Terminal via a 9-pin male EIA D-shell connector. This module also has a selectable switches scale ranging from 110 to 19200 bits/second on the RS-232-C port. The 1785-KE comes with 4 switch assemblies; the SW1, SW2, SW3, and the SW4 which help to provide communication options. The SW1 switch offers RS-232-C link options, the SW2 is for setting the Node number, the SW3 is used to select the Data Highway Plus and RS-232-C link communication rates. The SW4 is a reserved switch. The Allen-Bradley 1785-KE module mounts onto the single-slot 1771 I/O rack. When a drop-line configuration is used, it is mounted into a 100 feet Data Highway Plus Trunkline. It can connect directly to the RS-232-C device, and the extreme installation distance is about 50 feet. Keying requires pins 6 and 8 as well as pins 12 and 14. The 1785-KE module draws 1.2 Amps of backplane current from the I/O Rack.
