The 1785-KA5 PLC 5 Data Highway Plus/DH-485 module is a communication adapter module that provides devices on the DH+ (Data Highway Plus) Network with direct communication with devices connected to the DH-485 network, in order to establish a direct messaging communication link between the two processors. The 1785-KA5 module has DH+ and DH-485 communication ports, and it connects to the DH+ using the DH/DH+ station connector cable (1770-SC). It also connects to the DH-485 network, by using the Belden 9842 cable. Additionally, the 1785-KA5 has a communication rate of 57,600 bits per second with the DH+ network, and a selectable rates between 300 to 19,200 bits per second on the DH-485 network.
The 1785-KA5 can be mounted in any slot of the 1771 I/O rack, excluding the slot zero, and can be keyed by inserting the connection bands between pins 6 and 8, and between pins 12 and 14, to prevent incorrect I/O slot installation. The 1785-KA5 has a backplane power requirement of 2.0 Amps of current at 5 Volts DC, and it power source is the 1771 I/O rack power supply. Like most adapter modules in the series, it has 3 DIP switches (SW1, SW2, and SW3) which allow for the easy and convenient selection of communication options; it uses the SW1 switch for setting the DH485 station address, and the SW2 is used for an auto-rotating option. The module has an ambient functional temperature range within 0 to 60 degrees Celsius around a 5 to 95% non-condensing relative humidity condition, and it is CSA, UL, and CE certified.
