The 1785-BEM module is an outstanding backup module developed by Allen-Bradley that is also known as the 1785-BEM PLC-5 Backup Communication Module. To accommodate high-speed communications between 2 PLC-5 processors, the device is placed in a single I/O slot within the 1771 chassis. In case there is a power outage or any system emergency, the 1785-BEM module backs up the processor information and the data recorded until that point in time. Just like the 1785-BCM, the 1785-BEM also supports a 32-bit input capability on the image table of both processors. The same goes for the switch assembly which has 4 switches in different positions.
For operating properly, the 1785-BEM requires backplane current of 0.6 Amps generated at 5 Volts DC. For conductors, the 1785-BEM comes with a 26 to 14 AWG size copper wire as well as a cable connector. This 1771-CD cable connector is required for Remote I/O and DH+ operations. The HSSL communication speed for the 1785-BEM module averages at 1.2 Mega Bauds. The device’s built-in relay is set at 24 Volts DC (resistive). The keying for the device is the same as the 1785-BCM; keying on the backplane is successfully made operational by connecting pins 8 and 10 of the connecting bands with pins 34 and 36 of the backplane. When shipped, a field wiring arm is provided with the 1771-WN for attachment purpose that comes with a category number. The dimension of the product is 4.5 x 12.4 x 6.3 inches (115 x 317 x 160 millimeters) weighing at 0.3 pounds. The module output connection spec is 62-pin D-Shell. The 1784-KTCX is both CSA certified and UL listed.
