The 1784-PKTX Bus Communication Card Module is one if the more versatile Network Interface Cards developed by Allen-Bradley. Functioning as a PCI (Peripheral Component Interface) that acts as a medium between personal computers or personal computer-based controllers and the DH+ (Data Highway Plus) Network. For easier programming, it also performs the same function between a SLC processor on the DH-485 network. It operates at 2 channels; a 1-Amp 3-Pin Phoenix for DH+ and Remote I/O networks, and 1C 6-Pin Phoenix for DH-485 network. The 1784-PKTX utilizes the RSLinx PKTx device driver which can be easily connected to both the DH+ and the DH-485 networks. It uses 10-feet CP12 cables that have 3-pin Phoenix Ends with switchable termination resistors for connecting with other devices. For connecting to an SLC slot on the DH-485 network, the device uses 1784-CP14 cables which have 6-pin Phoenix Connectors coming with switchable termination resistors.
The transfer rate of the device depends on the connection length, with shorter connection lengths leading to higher transfer rates. The communication rates for the device at 10,000 feet, 5000 feet, and 2500 feet are 57.6K bit/second, 115.2K bit/second, and 230.4K bit/second. When it comes to the DH-485 network and the Remote I/O, the connection length and the transfer rates are limited to 4000 feet at 1200 bits/second, 9600 bits/second, and 19200 bits/second for the former and 2500 feet and 10000 feet at 230.4K bit/second and 57.6K bit/second, respectively. The operational temperature of the 1784-PKTX ranges between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius. The operational and continuous shock limit for the device is 30G and 2G at 10 to 500 Hertz. When shipped, a field wiring arm is provided for attaching wires. The dimensions of the product are 4.5 x 12.4 x 6.3 inches (115 x 317 x 160 millimeters) weighing at 0.3 pounds. The 1784-PTCX is both CSA certified and UL listed.

The 1784-PKTX device from Allen-Bradley is a PCI or peripheral component interconnect device from the PLC 5 product line. This device is a network interface card that can interface PCs with PLCs and SLCs through a supported network. The networks that are supported by the Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTX PCI card are the DH 485 network and the DH+ (data highway plus) network. The Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTX PCI card is protected by a conformal coating from liquids and chemicals and it does not require an external power source in order to operate. Up to 4 PCI cards like the 1784-PKTX PCI card can be supported by 1 PLC 5 system.
All of the wiring connections for the Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTX PCI network card are easy to make with the Allen-Bradley 1771-WN wiring card. This card is very light with a weight of only 0.1 kilograms or 0.3 pounds, and its dimensions are 115 millimeters x 317 millimeters x 160 millimeters or 4.5 inches x 12.4 inches x 6.3 inches. The Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTX PCI network card can operate in 5% to 95% relative humidity as long as the humidity does not condense. The ambient operating temperature range for this network interface card is from 0 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius or from 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTX PCI card can tolerate a maximum operating shock of 30 g.
The Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTX PCI card is part of the PLC 5 series. It is a peripheral component interconnect device that connects PCs to devices like PLCs and SLCs.
