The 1784-F30D is an Allen-Bradley plant floor terminal remote I/O expansion module which has extended node capability. The extended node capability is useful only if both the scanner and the adapters have this option (all the adapters must have it, without an exception). This feature allows the user to have up to 32 adapters using a termination resistor of 82 Ohms at both ends of the remote input/output (RIO) link for all baud rates. This remote input/output expansion module reduces the costs of installation, start-up, and maintenance. This option is achieved by placing the chassis closer to the actuators and sensors. Furthermore, the RIO link supports a serial transfer of control information at high speeds. The 1784-F30D is 10 inches long (25.4 centimeters), 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) wide, and 2 inches (5.0 centimeters) high. The module is lightweight – it weighs approximately 2 pounds (0.90 kilograms). The module has a 128K screen memory and it features a remote input/output. The adapter has a baud rate between 57.6 K and 230.4K, while the maximum cable distance ranges between 10,000 feet (3048 meters) and 2,500 feet (762 meters).
The 1784-F30D module is designed for use in industrial environment, and, it meets the requirements of the Council Directive 89/336/EEC Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). This remote adapter can be seen as a master unit on an RIO link, and a slave unit to an RIO scanner which allows an adapter to operate on a fixed user–defined amount of the adapter’s output and input image. The person in charge of the 1784-F30D’s installation should have at least a basic knowledge of SLC 500 Products. The users must make sure that the power supply has a proper current capacity. Power must be disconnected prior to installation to protect both the users and the unit against injuries or malfunction during start-up.
