The Allen-Bradley 1771-VHSC is a very high speed counter module for industrial applications. The module can be used with programmable controllers from Allen-Bradley that support block transfer and the 1771 I/O architecture. The 1771-VHSC can be installed in any slot in any 1771 I/O chassis. It counts pulses from pulse generators, proximity switches, encoders, and mechanical limit switches. The module provides 4 counters, 4 inputs, and 8 outputs. Each counter supports three inputs: A, B, and gate/reset. The input voltage is user selectable and can be either 5 Volts DC or 12 to 24 Volts DC. The input current is minimum 4 milliamps, typically 7 milliamps at 5 Volts DC, and 7 to 15 milliamps at 12 to 24 Volts DC. The output voltage is 5 to 24 Volts DC (supplied by customer) and the output current is 2 Amps per channel.
The 1771-VHSC draws 650 milliamps from the chassis backplane. The maximum power dissipated by the module is 13 Watts and the minimum power dissipation is 2 Watts. The maximum thermal dissipation is 54.2 BTU/hour and the minimum dissipation is 6.8 BTU/hour. To prevent damage to the module, the following precautions should be followed when handling or installing the module: the connector pins, backplane connector, and circuit components should not be touched. The personnel handling the module should ground themselves and wear a ESD wrist-strap device, and the module should be kept in a static shield bag when not in use. The working temperature range for the 1771-VHSC is 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit whereas the storage temperature range is -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. The module performs optimally in environments with 5 to 95% relative humidity.
