The 1771-QA is a stepper positioning assembly, manufactured and designed by Allen-Bradley. This unit belongs to the 1771 series and it is intended for controlling stepper motors using Allen-Bradley programmable controllers. One stepper module can control up to three expander modules. These are specially used in applications that require more than three axes and they can be also distributed throughout the plant by using remote I/O. The Allen-Bradley 1771-QA stepper positioning assembly is composed of two main components that are a pulse expander module and a stepper controller module. These have an output current of 8 Amps at 5 Volts DC, 2 Amps at +/- 15 Volts DC and 2.5 Amps at 24 Volts DC. These modules are compatible with any Allen-Bradley controller that has block transfer instructions.
The environmental conditions for both modules of the Allen-Bradley 1771-QA stepper positioning assembly are a temperature range from 5 to 60 degrees Celsius and a humidity rating of 5 to 95% without condensation. The communication between the PC processor data table and the Allen-Bradley 1771-QA stepper positioning assembly is controlled by a program logic. This assembly has LED indicators that allow users to observe the operating condition of the unit, it indicates communication faults with the PC and expander, and it indicates when the unit is active. When it comes to the installation of the Allen-Bradley 1771-QA stepper positioning assembly, there should not be more than three expander modules installed on the same I/O chassis. These modules can be located anywhere except the left-slot of the chassis.
