The Allen-Bradley 1771-PT2 is a Fiber Optic Cable intended to be used with PLC-2 and PLC-3 systems. This is a pre-terminated fiber-optic cable with the total length of 75 meters or 246 feet. It is duplex indoor-rated fiber-optic cable. These cables are pretested and intended to be used to make connections between 1771-AF fiber-optic converter modules to establish a complete fiber-optic communicating link. Allen-Bradley PLC series 2 and 3 were amongst first industrial devices to implement communication over fiber-optic cables. Optical cables were implemented to overcome the challenges of factory automation by providing a durable and robust means of communications with high-bandwidth. They were implemented in situations where copper cables couldn’t provide satisfying communication and where there was a need to transfer much data over the network.
The Allen-Bradley 1771-PT2 is PVC coated and has 2 fibers with SMA905 screw-type connectors. Termination of fiber optic cables can often take a lot of time, so already field terminated cable like 1771-PT2 is appreciated by all users. The cable bandwidth at 850 n-m is 100 KHz-Km. Some of the environmental conditions that have to be taken into consideration for this cable implementation are operating temperature which is allowed to be -20 to 70 degree Celsius and the flex and twist resistance of 2000 twists at a 5 centimeter radius. When installing these cables underground, be sure to place it inside of a PVC conduit. Before this cable is placed in any type of installation, ensure that there are no sharp edges along the way that could cut the cable.
