The 1771-PM is a Clutch/Brake Module manufactured by Allen-Bradley. This is a dedicated module engineered to monitor and control the press. It performs this task as a part of Clutch/Brake Controller. This controller is formed in a 1771-I/O chassis with the 1771-PM module as a base unit. The Clutch/Brake Controller also must have a wiring arm, 120 Volts AC input modules (to monitor press inputs), and 120 Volts AC isolated output modules (to control press). A typical mechanical power press would have crankshaft and cam switch assemblies. The Clutch/brake controller accepts inputs from the operator, observers shaft position over cam limit switch position feedback, and finally generates control signals to the press by using solenoid triac outputs. This Allen-Bradley controller can only be used with a press that has a part-revolution clutch which can be disconnected at any position of the shaft. This makes it possible to stop the mechanical power press at any position.
The 1771-PM Clutch/brake modules are designed to work in parallel; they always provide the same information about sensing conditions in the clutch/brake press system. Only when they agree press motion is stopped or prevented from starting. These module and press controllers are connected to a PLC which does not control press itself, but it enables the clutch/brake controller. The 1771-PM modules are designed to operate at 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) temperatures. These devices were subjected to special safety standards like OSHA, ANSI, and NFPA. To connect these items to a large press that makes high levels of vibration, shock-mount the I/O chassis with clutch/brake modules installed in them.
