The 1771-NIV1 is a high-resolution input module manufactured by Allen-Bradley. The module is used with PLC-3 and PLC-5 controllers. The 1771-NIV1 draws a backplane current of 1.2 Amps at 5 Volts DC from its backplane and its power dissipation rating is 6 watts. The module is part of a wide range of high-resolution modules in the 1771-N series. The 1771-NIV1’s channel-to-channel isolation voltage is 1000 Volts and this isolation voltage prevents the shorts and other common mode effects in one channel from affecting the other channels. The 1771-NIV1 module receives instructions from the PLC processor.
The 1771-NIV1 has a 16-bit resolution (input resolution) and a 0.01% typical accuracy plus an impedance >10 mega ohms. The module has a 9-second time frame before it detects an open input channel. Additionally, the 1771-NIV1 high-resolution input module has an overvoltage protection of 140 Volts AC RMS and it has a module update time rated at 25 seconds. For maximum performance of the 1771-NIV1 module, it has to be operated in industrial environments with a non-condensing relative humidity of between 5-95%. The operating temperature should not exceed 60 degrees Celsius and not fall below 0 degrees Celsius. The 1771-NIV1 has a 25mA limiting current. The module is used to interface with input devices (analog) e.g. flow, temperature, and temperature transducers. The module uses 16-bit analog to digital converters and it can be used for real-time sampling, programmable digital data filtering, and scaling to engineering units. The module is single-slot and has 8 individually-isolated input channels.
