The Allen-Bradley 1771-M1 is a stepper motor controller module. It forms a very important part of the 1771-QA stepper motor positioning assembly. The module draws a current of 1750 milliamperes at 5 Volts direct current from the backplane. The module is powered from the input-output chassis where it occupies a single slot. The 1771-M1 stepper motor controller module controls a maximum of three pulse output modules per axis.
If more pulse output expander modules need to be used in the system, then a maximum of three axes can be added modularly by adding to the output an additional two expander modules along the input-output chassis. The pulse output expander modules occupy a random slot in the I/O chassis but never the leftmost slot which is commonly reserved for the processor. The module is keyed using bands between pins 2 and 4 and pins 8 and 10. The 1771-M1 module operates optimally in environments with a temperature ranging from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius. The modules have a relative humidity rating of between 5 and 95% without condensation and stored at temperatures not exceeding 85 degrees Celsius and a minimum storage temperature of -40 degrees Celsius. The 1771-M1 stepper motor positioning assemblies use a data highway or a remote input-output channel when the 1771-M1 has to be located at different locations around the factory or plant. The 1771-QA provides LED indicators which are used to show and address conflict when more than one 1771-M1 is used in the same chassis and when the 1771-M1 and the 1771-OJ fail to communicate.
