The Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley 1771-LI is a Loop Controller interface module that interfaces the 1771-LC loop controllers to a maximum of 15 LCs. The module puts a load of 1.3 Amps on the backplane and it provides a communication speed of 4.8k bits per second. The 1771-LI is installed in the Allen-Bradley 1771 Input-Output chassis where it occupies 1 slot. The 1771-LI utilizes the 1771-WA wiring arm which in turn minimizes the need to re-wire the whole setup when replacing the module. The 1771-LC uses the RS-485 multi drop electrical interface that runs to a maximum of 4000 feet. The twisted pair cable used for wiring the 1771-LI should have a resistance of 60 ohms (min) and a capacitance of 75pF/ meter (max). The 1771-LI loop controller interface module is compatible with the PLC-2 and PLC-5 processor enabling them to communicate with the 1771-LC1, 1771-LC2, 1771-LC3, and 1771-LC4 single loop controllers (PID).
The module supports commands such as: loop status, set control, modify parameters, read parameters, upload, download, execute loop status, and error record. For the 1771-LI module to change the parameters for loop control, it must be in ‘workstation’ mode. The loop controller interface module has 3 LED indicators (MOD FAULT, CHANNEL ACTIVE, and MOD ACTIVE) on the front panel to indicate fault, normal operation, and successful initialization after power has been applied. The 1771-LI module uses pins 12 and 14 and pins 16 and 18 for keying to the backplane connector. When installing or handling the 1771-LI module be cautious to avoid the electrostatic charges from damaging the module. Also, switch off the power to the Input-Output chassis.
