The Allen-Bradley 1771-KG is an interface module that provides a link between the processor (PLC-2) and an RS-232-C (intelligent) device or devices. The linking provides communication (master/slave and point-to-point) with intelligent devices or PCs. A complimentary interface to another processor (PC) is achieved through a point-to-point channel with a communication module and a point-to-point communication with data highway stations is achieved by providing a link to the 1771-KE and the 1771-KF communication controller modules. The 1771-KG is compatible with the 1772-LV, 1772-LN1, 1772-LN2, 1772-LN3, 1772-LP1, and the 1772-LP3 bulletin processors.
The 1771-KG occupies a single slot in the Allen-Bradley 1771 Input/Output chassis. The module should be placed at a distance of 10 cable feet. from the processor and is powered through the backplane. The 1771-KG uses the PROCESSOR, PROGRAM INTERFACE, and the RS-232-C connector ports for communication. The module also has LED indicators (PROC, PROG, ACTV, RCVG, and XMTG) that help in troubleshooting and monitoring the module plus devices connected to it. The 1771-KG module uses the full-duplex protocol for point-to-point communications. For master/slave communications the 1771-KG uses the half duplex protocol. Additionally, the module communicates at a speed of 110, 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, or 19,200 bits per second. The 1771-KG module draws a current of 1 Amps from the backplane and it uses pins 4 to 6 and pins 22 to 24 for keying. The 1771-KG module operates maximally within a relative humidity range of between 5 and 95% and an ambient temperature of between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius. When it is not in use, the 1771-KG should be stored in an area with a temperature ranging from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
