The Allen-Bradley 1771-KA3 an adapter module for communication data. The module has an operating shock rating of 30g. The 1771-KA3 makes it possible for Programmable Logic Controllers in the system to communicate with each other. This is achieved by converging all the PLCs and RS-232 devices together in a data highway plus module. The standard data highway cable is 3048 meters and accommodates PLCs and PCs along its way with a maximum capacity of 64 devices. The 1771-KA3 can be used with PLC-2 processors and it communicates at a rate of 9.6 kilo baud when using the program interface port.
When interfaced through the data highway port, the 1771-KA3 reaches a communication rate of 57.6 kilo baud. The module can achieve a communication rate of 91.2 kilo baud if connected through the processor port. Then the 1771-KA3 module operates at a current of 1.2 A at 5V DC. The power to the module can be supplied by either the 1771-P1, 1771-P2, 1771-P3, 1771-P4 or the 1771-P5 power supplies. Also, the 1771-KA3 occupies any single slot in the 1771 Input/Output chassis apart from the leftmost slot which is for the processor. The 1771-KA3 module is keyed using pins between pins 4 and 6, pins 22 and 24, for the lower connectors and the upper connectors, respectively. The 1771-KA3 module has its maximum output when operated at temperatures of up to 60 degrees Celsius and temperatures as low as 0 degrees Celsius. Additionally, it should operate in environments with a noncondensing humidity of between 5 and 95%. The 1771-KA3 module can be stored at a temperature between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius.
