The Allen-Bradley 1771-IXE thermocouple input module is a single-slot module requiring no external power supply. From the chassis power supply, the module requires 850mA which should be calculated against the total of all the other modules on the I/O chassis. It senses as many as 8 differential analog inputs and it converts them to values that are compatible with Allen-Bradley programmable controllers. The 1771-IXE module may be used in any 1771 I/O chassis except the catalog number 1771-AL PLC 2/20 or the 2/30.
Therefore, after it scans the analog inputs, the 1771-IXE converts the input data into a specified digital type that is transferred on request to the processor’s data table. This input scan will run to completion before the block transfer mode can be enabled. The minimum interval time between the block transfer readings is 5ms and this is equal to that of the total input update time for each of the analog input modules. Data is transferred from the module by using Block Transfer Write instructions which allow the processor to obtain the input values and the status from the module. Analog signals are then converted into binary or into BCD formats which are subsequently stored until these transfers are requested by the processor.
There are 8 input channels on the module that are configurable for thermocouple input ranges or for Millivolt input ranges. The module also features a 1 C temperature resolution, cold junction compensation, and up to 10 micro-volts in milli-volt resolution and user-selectable high-temperature and low-temperature alarms. The 1771-IXE input module is self-diagnostic and will show the status report right on start-up. Always put the module away from high-voltage module and discrete high-density modules to avoid noise interferences. In addition, the recommended cable should be 50 feet in length, helping to reduce signal degradation and electrical noise in industrial settings.
