The Allen-Bradley 1771-IS multiplexer input module operates at a voltage rating of 5V DC. The module is single-slot and comes with the 1771-WF wiring arm. The module reads the status of 3 or 4-digit BCD thumbwheel switches and it is also capable of detecting an Off-On transition during a block transfer operation. The 1771-IS module has an LED status indicator to help in monitoring and troubleshooting. During the initial powering up, the module goes through an initialization process and when a fault is detected, the 1771-IS module will halt operation until the fault is corrected. The module is compatible with PLC controllers that support the 1771 Input and Output structure.
The 1771-IS module has a two-user selectable scan time; 15.3 milliseconds for the normal scan and 5.1 milliseconds for the fast scan. Unless interrupted by external factors like a user program, the scan time is continuous and after the interruption, the scanning continues from the last stop. The 1771-IS module has the capability to scan 72 switch contacts at the same time in a sequential order. The processor receives data from the 1771-IS that has already been scanned and multiplexed. The data comes from either the 3 or 4-digit thumbwheel switches.
The 1771-IS multiplexer input module uses switches to select a range of operating modes. The module is keyed using pins 8-10 and pins 26-28 for the lower and upper connections respectively. Additionally, the 1771-IS draws a current of 800mA from the backplane, has a switch power rating of 13 mA at 5V DC switch contact and accommodates a switch cable distance not exceeding 400ft. when more than 8 switch contacts are required, a decoupling diode is used. When wiring the 1771-IS module, use a cable capacitance of 0.039mF and an 18 or 20-gauge wire for cables that measure 100-400ft and cables <100ft respectively.
