The 1771-IJ is an incremental encoder/ counter module from Allen Bradley. The module uses the 1771-WB wiring arm for wring to minimize wiring needs when the module needs to be replaced. The 1771-IJ has a voltage isolation of 1500 Volts tested at a duration of 1 second. The module is powered from an external 5 Volts DC power supply. A 5 Volt power supply enables the module to accept TTL compatible inputs. The module has LED indicators on its front for monitoring and troubleshooting. The first indicators on the module caters for the status of channels A and B and marker. When respective input signals are high, limit switches glow. The remaining 2 indicators indicate the output statuses
The 1771-IJ runs a self-test on power up and the FAULT indicator stays on for abnormally long periods when then the module detects a fault on itself or when the communications cannot be established. Since contact bounces may be counted as pulses, mechanical switches are not recommended to be used to interface the 1771-IJ with counting devices (input). The marker input and input channels can be set individually for differential or single ended line inputs. Inputs to the 1771-IJ must be current sinking otherwise channels A, B, and the marker inputs will be damaged. The 1771-IJ runs on a current of 140 mA although the 5 Volt DC power supply provides 1.4A and <50mV (ripple) peak to peak.
