The 1771-IFF analog input module is a product by Allen-Bradley and Rockwell Automation. As a PLC-5 analog input module, 1771-IFF interfaces analog inputs with the corresponding processor systems via block transfer programming. The 1771-IFF uses A 16-bit resolution and it also performs the conversions as well as reverse conversions for the purposes of interfacing analog signals with the data table values in the PLC processor. The 1771-IFF input module is very useful for various applications that include sensing, temperature, pressure or level sensing, and flow metering.
Like all other A-Series input modules, the 1771-IFF module has 16 single-ended or 8 differential inputs that are selectable. The 1771-IFF also has natural binary scaling or the BCD scaling for data format of up to +9999. The nominal input voltage ranges are 0-5VDC, 1-5V DC, and -5-5V DC, as well as -10-10V DC while the nominal input current input ranges include 4-20mA, 0-20mA, -20-20mA and -40-40mA. The 1771-IFF’s backplane current load is 750mA and the channel update time is 5ms for 8 of its channels or 10ms for 16 of the channels. Its maximum power dissipation is 2.5W and the thermal dissipation is 8.52 BTU/hr.
For replacing the 1771-IFF input module, there is a 1771-WG wiring arm that comes with the module and eliminates the need to disconnect wiring in the processor. In any case, the 1771-IFF module is compatible with any 1771 I/O chassis and it only needs one slot during installation. Some additional features useful for the 1771-IFF module include opto-electrical isolation that protects it from electrical transients and also the input filters that reduce electrical noise.
