The 1771-IDC is an insulated AC/DC input module manufactured by Allen-Bradley. The module comes from the Allen-Bradley 1771 C series and it is designed to work with PLC-5 Controller platforms at an operating voltage range of 120 Volts AC. The device can work at as low as 92 Volts AC. Its nominal current values range from 6.91 milliamps AC at 50 Hertz to 8 milliamps AC at 60 Hertz. For DC operating voltages, it takes 8 milliamps at 120 Volts DC. It is a relatively low power module with a maximum power consumption of 4.4 Watts. It comprises 6 inputs and has a compact design. Its front panel contains red status indicators which light up for its corresponding input AC/DC voltage supplies. The 1771-IDC has been designed to meet all possible environmental conditions as it can withstand up to 85 degrees Celsius. It is compatible with AC input modules and devices such as selector switches, pushbutton switches, float switches, and limit switches. Various ON/OFF devices can be controlled through this module and it can support high power operations as well. As an isolation module, it provides excellent optical based isolation, providing much needed electrical protection to expensive systems. Moreover, troubleshooting becomes easier because the module is easily detachable.
The 1771-IDC features input voltage filtering to avoid bouncing effects while switching. The filters also cut off electrically radiated noise. Eventually, filtering causes a minor delay of about 24 milliseconds switching ON/OFF in AC inputs. For DC inputs, it takes about 10 milliseconds to turn on and 20+9 milliseconds to turn off. As far as keying is concerned, it is recommended to use plastic keying bands. Ensure that keying position corresponds to the slots during insertion. The leftmost connector is reserved for processor and adapter modules. Other than that, any connector can be keyed to the I/O chassis. For installation of the module to the I/O chassis, first remove electrical power from the chassis and power arm. Otherwise, it could damage the module and even cause injury to the installer. Align the rear part of the module with the card guide on top and bottom. Slide it inside to the chassis and firmly press to seat the module to the connector. Place the latch down to secure the module in its place.
