The 1771-IBN by Allen Bradley is a Digital DC Input Module. It functions to convert the DC signals sent from user devices to the logic level that the processor requires. It has direct control over the state of the corresponding bits found in the PLC data table. It is cost-efficient and saves space while allowing input to be added to a PLC control system. This module’s 3.5 x 6.5 x 2.0 inch frame, weighing approximately 2 pounds, accommodates 4 sets of 8 input points (32 in total). This module sits in the 10 to 60 Volts DC, Sink category. The 1771-IBN module operates at a range of 10 to 30 volts DC with an average 6 (±2) millisecond delay while in ON or OFF states respectively. It has a 280 mA backplane current load and 1.7mA maximum current in the OFF state. For troubleshooting purposes, there are 32 status indicator lights located on the panel at the front of the module.
The 1771-IBN has a conformal coat and is compatible with the 1771-WN wiring arm. This is very handy, since it eliminates the need to disconnect the wiring. It functions with panel switching devices such as pushbuttons and selector switches as well as source-switching devices like electro-mechanical transmitters and dry contact switches. The input filtering feature also helps to minimize electrical noise.
Please bear in mind that since the 1771-IBN is a sink input it therefore, will require a source output. This module should be used in a 1771 input/output chassis, to include 1771-A1B, 1771-A2B, 1771-A3B, 1771-A3B1, 1771-A4B, or a later model. It should not be installed in a chassis containing the 1771-IX thermocouple module. However, it may be installed in a chassis containing the 1771-IXE thermocouple module.
