This Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation terminal, the 1771-DW, is a wire fault module that takes in an input of about 15 to 27 Volts DC. This 1771-DW has about seven on/off DC inputs that are easily convertible to logic signals, which are compatible with a programmable controller system. The 1771-DW module detects the wire circuit that is normally linked to the input device of the module. It also detects wire circuits that are linked to the power supply that is short-circuited to the ground or to the circuits that are open. A shunt resistor connected across the terminals must be used in order to effectively monitor the 1771-DW module from the wire circuits. During the off-state leakage current of the 2 wires, the input devices should not exceed 1 mA and normally, the input indicators of the 1771-DW module are strategically placed on the front side of the module with all the other seven status indicators, in order to show the status of the inputs that are clearly shown by the indicators as well as by the wiring fault. In the 1771-DW, the power supply is through the common terminal and the input terminal has a constant voltage that should always be maintained. The voltage of the 1771-DW is always selected as a 15 to 27 Volt DC voltage for the power supply; this module has a normal supply voltage of 24 Volts DC, which is also the voltage that is recommended by the manufacturers. For higher voltages around 25 Volts DC or lower voltages around 23 Volts DC, a shunt resistor of 3.3 k carbon film ½-Watt must be used. The 1771-DW’s backplane current is about 300 mA and a 1500 Volt DC optoelectrical isolation, and its operating temperature ranges from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius while the storage temperature is around -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
