This Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley module, the 1771-DMC1, is a Control Coprocessor Main Module. The 1771-DMC1 is generally a PLC-5 Control Coprocessor that basically expands the module’s capabilities in addition to the capacities of the Programmable controller system. This is achieved by running the 1771-DMC1 in various programs, including C, Basic, and Assembler, which are expected to perform activities such as the manipulation and analyzation of information that is gathered from a programmable controller. This information could be in the form of an output, input, or any other information coming from the programmable controller. These programs are also expected to pass communication to the external devices on the programmable controller system via the Ethernet ports of the asynchronous serial communication ports.
The 1771-DMC1 has various communication ports, which are numbered from COMM0 to COMM3; each port is compatible with a different RS protocol. The COMM0 port is compatible with RS-232C, 9 pin, while COMM1, COMM2, and COMM3 are compatible with RS-232C, RS-423, RS-485, and RS-422, 25 pins. Communication rates through the ports range from 110, 150, 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, and 9600 bps, as well as 19.2 kbps and 38.4 kbps. The 1771-DMC1 also has an Ethernet port that supports the TCP/IP protocol via routes like FTP, TELNET, and socket library. The communication rate through the Ethernet port is 10 mbps. The 1771-DMC1 also has a backplane current, which forms the main module and allows 4 A through at a 5 Volt DC voltage. It also has a serial expander module that supports 1.5A at 5 Volts of DC as well. The 1771-DMC1 control coprocessor module also has an optional serial expander module, which has a slot to allow the two modules (the control-coprocessor module and the serial expander module) to be used together.
