The 1771-DE is an Absolute Encoder Module from Allen Bradley. The 1771-DE uses the programmable controller scan to provide a rapid response to the machine position. This module has approximate dimensions of 6 x 3 x 10 inches and weighs approximately 1.30 kilograms. The 1771-DE Absolute Encoder Module should be stored at temperatures of between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius and operated within temperatures of between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius. Depending on the preset values for the differentiation, the 1771-DE controls a maximum of eight outputs (high current). The 1771-DE has 0.0047 seconds as its throughput when writing new data and provides a 200 µs throughput for all the eight outputs; it also uses block transfers to communicate with the PLC controller. When all outputs are functioning, the 1771-DE switches 2A DC per output without derating. The 1771-DE is compatible with Mini PLC-2, PLC-2/20, PLC-2/30, Mini-PLC-2/15 and Mini-PLC-2/05 processors. The 1771-DE also has ten indicators to help monitor operations, and for troubleshooting purposes. These 8 indicators cater for each of the 8 outputs. This module has one ACTIVE indicator and one Fault LED indicator. The 1771-DE is keyed using pins 2 & 4 (lower) and pins 26 & 28 (upper). The 1771-DE has an input frequency of 50 kHz and a backplane current consumption of 800 mA at 5 Volts DC. The input current for differential drivers is 18 mA and 11 mA for single ended channel. To increase the position of the gray code encoders, the 1771-DE provides an adjustable rotation direction. To cater for the logic states 0 and 1, the 1771-DE module uses 1.7 Volts DC and 0 to 0.6 Volts DC respectively.
