The Allen Bradley 1771-CFM is a single-slot Input Output module. When used to replace the 1771-QRC or the 1771-QRD, this module’s jumper (operation) and its I/O devices are wired to the 1771-WN field wiring arm, while the ladder logic is not affected by the replacement. The 1771-CFM is used as an interface between a PLC processor (with block transfer) and an external I/O device. The 1771-CFM also provides 4 input channels that, when configured, can measure speed, volume, and the direction of the shaft’s rotation. It also provides an interface to a prover. Additionally, the channels support a magnetic pickup of between 50 mV and 500 mV, a TTL compatible 4 to 40 Volt DC pulses probe inputs (proximity). The 1771-CFM has 4 high speed outputs, which are electrically protected with a 3A fuse. The outputs can be allocated to any user-controlled input channels, have external power supplies, and are categorized in groups of two. The 1771-CFM draws a current of 1.0 from the backplane. The 1771-P1 or the 1771-PS7 power supply modules are used to power one 1771-CFM module. This module occupies one slot in the 1771-I/O chassis. The 1771-CFM has INPUTS, OUTPUTS, ACTIVE, STATUS, and FAULT indicators, which provide a tool to simplify the monitoring and troubleshooting procedures. The 1771-CFM module has a module scan time of 1.3 5 milliseconds, a programmable count value between 0 to 9 million, and a maximum flow-meter and gate input frequency of 100kHz. It has a power dissipation of 13 Watts (at maximum) and 2 Watts (at minimum), a maximum thermal dissipation rating of 54.2 BTU/hour, and 6.8 BTU/hour minimum. Additionally, the 1771-CFM is keyed to the lower backplane connector through the pins 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. It has a maximum off-state leakage current (output) of less than 300µA at 40 Volts DC, and an on-state maximum voltage drop of 0.6Ω x current. The wiring screw torque is 7 to 9 pounds on an inch.
