The Allen Bradley 1771-ARC is a remote I/O adapter module that interfaces between the 1774-SD remote I/O distribution panel and the I/O modules of the PLC-5 system. The 1771-ARC gets (serially) the status data of the output image table and updates (in parallel) all output modules in the Input-Output chassis. Additionally, the 1771-ARC I/O adapter module receives all the input modules’ status data, which is used by the distribution panel to update the input image table. The 1771-ARC reads the status data in parallel and transmits it to the distribution panel serially. The 1771-ARC has two LED indicators on its face. The ACTIVE indicator monitors the electrical power to the module. It also monitors the electrical power status of the transmission line that holds the distribution panel. The RACK FAULT indicator is red in color and turns on when the I/O chassis encounters a major error. The RACK FAULT indicator does not cater for a short in the bus. The 1771-ARC adapter module can have a maximum distance of 5000 cable-feet between the module and the distribution panel.
The 1771-ARC draws a current of 900mA at 5 Volts DC from the backplane. This module uses pins 54 through 56 for upper keying and 16 to18 for lower keying. The 1771-ARC has a storage temperature rating between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius and an operating temperature rating between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius. The module is rated for use in an environment with a relative humidity of 5 to 95% without condensation. The 1771-ARC occupies one slot in the I/O chassis
