The 1771-AL from Allen-Bradley is an I/O adapter module that interfaces with the local PLC-2 system. The 1771-AL can be mounted in either the 4-slot, 8-slot, 12-slot or the 16-slot I/O chassis. With the 1771-AL, two modules close to each other are considered as a single group and they are addressed using the 1771 2-slot I/O addressing as a single entity. The module has an operating temperature range between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius and a storage temperature range between -40 and +85 degrees Celsius. The 1771-AL draws a backplane current of 700mA at 5V and its heat dissipation rating is 5V. When mounting the 1771-AL on the 1771 I/O chassis, the slot on the far left should be used.
Parallel communication is also possible with the 1771-AL I/O adapter module. For troubleshooting and operational maintenance, the 1771-AL has status indicators (rack fault and active indicators). These indicators are located on the face of the module. For connection to the backplane, the module has a backplane connector which is located on the edge at its back and additional 2 connectors at the front of the 1771-AL. One of the front backplane connectors is located at the top of the device and the other is on the bottom.
The top connector caters to connections to the I/O chassis and the processor when it is near the processor. The bottom chassis connector caters to connections to the I/O chassis when the processor or the I/O termination plug are at a distance. The 1771-AL module is meant to be used in an industrial environment with a non-condensing humidity level between 5 and 95%. The 1771-AL enables system configuration by interfacing the PLC-2 series processors with the I/O modules.
