The 1771-A1B by Allen Bradley is an input/output chassis that serves as housing for 1771 input/output modules. It is a back-panel mounting type chassis with 4 slots and it is protected by an open enclosure that weighs approximately 8 pounds and measures 12.4 x 9 x 7.6 inches. This chassis provides a path of communication between either the input/output adapter module or the controller and the various input or output modules that are installed. The 1771-A1B can house power-supply modules, a processor, input/output modules, and remote and extended local input/output adapter modules. The slot to the far left is reserved for the installation of the adapter module or the processor. The remaining slots can be used for installing the power supply, communication modules, and the input/output modules.
The 1771-A1B chassis can receive power from external power supplies that yield 6.5 to 16 amps, from power supplies which yield 3 to 8 amps, and from processors with integrated power supplies yielding 2 to 4 amps. The highest operating backplane current load that it can handle is 16 amps at 5V DC. Make sure that the chassis is grounded by connecting the 1771-A1B to a central ground bus with the grounding studs. The configuration jumper is used in setting up the power supply for the chassis. When it is in the “N” position, it is working with an external power supply and the “Y” position is used when it is being powered by a processor with an integrated power supply or a power supply module. The 1771-A1B chassis can receive power from either one of these power sources, but not simultaneously.
