Allen-Bradley developed the Kinetix 5500 Ethernet/IP servo drives, which are cutting-edge motor speed control devices for multi-axis servo and induction motor systems. They run servo and induction motors on the same platform. It is critical for equipment manufacturers looking to integrate these components during multi-axis machine production. The Kinetix 5500 series is based on unique load observer real-time tuning technology. It also automatically adjusts to extra devices put on the servo motors and compensates for their influence on the calculations of the parameters that are critical for managing the motors' speed, acceleration, and torque. Kinetix 5500 servo drives employ only one cable for feedback, motor brake, and motor power connections, reducing installation costs and time significantly. All of the axis modules can be zero-stacked to conserve space and give the electrical cabinet a more modern appearance. The Kinetix 5500 series drives are also referred to as integrated safety servo drives since the safety signal is carried via Ethernet rather than a wire between the drives and the controllers. This is useful in systems with frequent hardware upgrades since it prevents wire changes and enables the security system to be readily rebuilt with only software configuration changes. The Kinetix 5500 modules have two Ethernet ports, and DLR (Device Level Ring) network topologies can be implemented. The Kinetix 5500 series features flexible power connectivity, allowing the system to be operated in various ways. Each drive serves 200V and 400V class applications. They are available in standalone, multi-axis shared AC, shared DC, shared AC/DC, and hybrid shared AC/DC versions. The Kinetix 5500 drives include internal solid-state motor short-circuit protection. Furthermore, an alternating current (AC) line filter or external shunt resistors decrease system failures caused by excessive electrical noise.
