Allen-Bradley developed the 445L-R4S0960YD safety light curtain is a general-purpose presence sensing device intended for use in hazardous machinery and situations; this item belongs to the GuardShield series of safe 4 safety light curtains. This device is a self-contained, non-matched pair of type 4 electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) optical components (a receiver and a transmitter). The 445L-R4S0960YD safety light curtain comes complete with an inbuilt laser alignment mechanism. The 445L-R4S0960YD is intended for hazardous applications such as "point of operation" protection (for finger and hand protection), "access protection," and "hazardous area" protection. This device features short-circuit protected OSSD outputs, dust and pollution protection, built-in diagnostic indicators, optical signal synchronization without cables, and maintenance-free operation. The transmitter and receiver units of the 445L-R4S0960YD safety light curtain use 24 volts DC power and have a maximum protective field range of 0.9 meters. The transmitter releases a sequential pulse of infrared photons, which the receiver automatically interprets and processes, and the synchronization of these signals is accomplished optically. The "output signal switching devices" (OSSD) on the 445L-R4S0960YD safe 4 safety light curtain is two (2) short-circuit protected safety outputs. When both the transmitter and receiver are properly aligned, these outputs are current sourcing outputs for 24 volts DC power with 300 milliamps of current switching capability. The maximum resolution of the 445L-R4S0960YD safe 4 safety light curtain is 30 millimeters, with a maximum protective field range of 18 meters and a protective field height of 960 millimeters. The 445L-R4S0960YD is designed to function in "guard mode" with an automatic restart, but it can be reconfigured to work in other modes, such as PSDI mode, by utilizing additional external safety devices.
