Allen Bradley manufactured the 1783-ETAP is an embedded switch, which is an Ethernet/IP network port that is part of Allen-Bradley's Ethernet/IP embedded switch technology product line. Through a linear network switch, Ethernet/IP technology allows devices to connect and interact with one another. This technology provides several options for connecting devices that employ switches. The 1783-ETAP Ethernet/IP network embedded switch enables users to connect devices to a linear network that is not compatible with switch technology. It has two (2) copper network ports that allow users to connect to the socket and linear networks. Only one of these sockets needs to be set up as a ring supervisor. In the DLR network, Allen Bradley’s 1783-ETAP Ethernet/IP network port can operate at up to 100 megabytes per second (Mbps). This speed varies depending on the number of devices connected. However, the 1783-ETAP is a plug-and-play device, installation and configuration are simple. It can be set up using either the RSLinx Classic communication software or the web interface. The 1783-ETAP is useful for connecting devices that do not have switch ports to an EtherNet/IP network, extending an EtherNet/IP network without the requirement for a separate switch, and constructing a redundant EtherNet/IP network topology. It is often used to connect devices such as PLCs, HMIs, and I/O devices to a network in various industrial automation applications. This module has a lower supply unit of 24 volts DC (an operational range from 20.4 to 27.6 VDC) and a maximum current consumption of 200 milliamps (mA) at 24 VDC. An IP20 housing configuration protects this device. The power dissipated is 4.8 Watts.
