The MVI56E-LDM is one Linux development unit from the Prosoft Technology lineup, an Allen Bradley partner. This module's integrated Application Programme Interface (API) is essentially used to create custom Linux-based apps and solutions that communicate with compatible ControlLogix controllers. This unit features a dedicated 400 Mega Hertz ARM9 G20 computer processor that runs Kernel Linux 2.6.33.7 and the Timesys Linux distribution. This unit has an inbuilt 64 MB SDRAM & 256 MB Flash NAND memory, two independent 422 / 485 / RS232 combo interfaces, and two independent Ethernet internet connections. The MVI56E-LDM also features a development environment and a Linux VM, which may be accessed via the module manufacturer's website. The Eclipse IDE plus a toolchain & libraries, are included with this virtual machine. This is a single-slot, fanless module with a scrolling LED display that lets you see customized messages like status updates and notifications, among other things. This module features a backplane power drain of 800 milliamperes at 5 Volts of Direct Current and 3 milliAmperes at 24 Volts of DC. Application-driven status indicators for (APP), (ERR), and (OK) are among the LE status indicators that are put on it. The Ethernet ports on this module include an RJ45 connector that allows for a 10/100 Mbps transmission rate. It can also automatically negotiate and recognize crossover wires to build a point-to-point connection. This does away with the requirement for an Ethernet switch. Using the embedded jumper ports, the RJ45 (DB-9M with accompanying adapter cable) serial application ports may be setup for RS-232 hardware handshaking or changed to RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485.
