The Allen-Bradley Logix5574 is a standard logic controller module from the ControlLogix Series. What makes this controller stand out from the other modules from this series is a 1756 Slim Power Supply and a chassis which provides a 29% reduction of the width which is particularly useful in areas where there is not the normal amount of space available. Though mounted in a chassis which has up to 17 slots, the module can be installed in any slot the users choose. Furthermore, multiple controllers may be installed in a single chassis. The Logix5574 has a maximum I/O capacity of 128,000, whereas the maximum Analog I/O capacity of the module is 4,000. The module draws an 800 milliamp current at 5.1 Volts, which decreases to 5 milliamps at 1.2 Volts DC. In addition to the conformal coating which protects the module from extreme industrial conditions, the Logix5574 also has 30 Volts of continuous isolation voltage. The 4-character alphanumeric display enables communication with the module and it shows faults in the operation of the unit. The controller features a USB 2.0 communication port and it has 16 MB of memory. Structured text, SFC languages, and Ladder Logic can be used to program the controller, and the Control Net, Data Highway Plus, EtherNet/IP, and Synch Link networks may be used for process communication.

The Removal Insertion Under Power (RIUP) feature of the controller makes the maintenance of the controller much easier. Part of the Integrated Architecture system, the Logix 5574 can be used in Design Environment and Studio Automation Engineering, as well as other protocols. The built-in SD card has the ability to store a project copy on the controller without the need to maintain power to the controller. However, the users should know that the data will not be stored if there is no energy capacity, or if the computer loses power. Designed to withstand harsh environments, the Logix5574 can operate in an area where temperatures reach up to 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit), and it can withstand a relative humidity of 5% to 95%. In order to avoid malfunctioning and damage to the controller, the user is advised to keep the SD card installed. If the users choose to remove the card while the power is on, they risk an electrical arc which may lead to an explosion. Hence, it is advised to cut off the power before removing the SD card. The same applies to the removal of the controller from the chassis.
