The Logix5564 is a programmable ControlLogix controller from Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley. The controller has 16 megabytes of user memory, a 478 Kilobyte of I/O memory and occupies a single slot in the Input Output chassis. Being a controller/ processor, it occupies the left most slot in the chassis although it can be installed on any slot in the Input Output rack. In an I/O chassis, the leftmost slot is always meant to mount processors and controllers. The user memory is volatile and is supported by a mounted battery. Where non-volatile memory is required, the Logix5564 supports CompactFlash cards from Rockwell automation. The Logix5564 exerts a current load of 14 and 1200 milliamperes on the backplane at 24 and 5 Volts DC respectively. For digital and analog Input Output connections, the Logix5564 accommodates a maximum of 128,000 and 4,000 connections respectively.
The Logix5564 ControlLogix controller provides features to diagnose minor faults such as task overlap, load from non-volatile memory, serial port fault, instruction related faults, and more. When this faults occur before they are diagnosed, the Logix5564 has LED status indicators on its face which also help in monitoring the system. The Logix5564 communicates through networks (Remote I/O, DH+, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet/IP) which are interfaced to the Logix5564 using an RS-232 serial port which supports ASCII, Modbus via logic, DH-485, DF1 radio modem, and DF1 full/half duplex standards. The Logix5564 handles 100 programs per task and a maximum of 32 tasks. The power and thermal dissipation ratings for the Logix5564 stands at 3.5 Watts and 11.9 BTU per hour, respectively.
