The Allen-Bradley 1756-TIME is the time synchronization module for the ControlLogix systems. It uses GPS technology to provide time synchronization on various interfaces. Timing information can be obtained by the module from different sources and it can also act as a gateway between dissimilar synchronization standards. The 1756-TIME package contains the 1756-TIME module, a GPS antenna, and a GPS SMA connector with cable. Interface options on the module include two Ethernet ports, an SMA connector for GPS antenna connection, and a BNC-type connector for an IRIG-B connector. The 1756-TIME supports the following protocols and standards for time synchronization: PTP, UTC, and CST for the ControlLogix backplane, PTP and NTP for the Ethernet network, and the IRIG-B. The module can provide GPS coordinates, altitude, ground speed in knots, and heading information.
The current drawn by the 1756-TIME from the chassis backplane is 1.01 Amps at 5.1 Volts DC and 2.64 milliamps at 1.2 Volts DC. The recommended cable types for the Ethernet network is Cat-5e at minimum and RG-58 (or equivalent) for the IRIG-B. The cable assembly for the antenna connection is provided with the module. The cable for connections to the Ethernet ports is not provided with the module. For a Series B chassis, the operating temperature range for the 1756-TIME is from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius and the maximum supported surrounding air temperature is 50 degrees Celsius. For a Series C chassis, the operating temperature range is from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and the maximum supported surrounding air temperature is 60 degrees Celsius. The storage temperature range is from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The dimensions of the module are 5.72 x 1.36 x 5.50 inches.
