The Allen Bradley 1756-OF4 Analog Voltage/Current Analog Output Module is a 4-point analog voltage/current module used for high-speed output control in many industrial automated applications. This module provides means of sharing output status among multiple connected ControlLogix controller, and like most 1756 controlLogix I/O modules, it is installed on any ControlLogix chassis slot using a removable terminal block or an interface module. The 1756-OF4 has four 15-bits ±10 Volt DC/4 to 20 milliAmpere outputs, and it draws 150 milli-Ampere backplane current at 5.1 Volt Dc and 120 milli-Ampere backplane current at 24 volt DC. It has total backplane power of 3.7 Watts, with 3.7 Watts maximum power dissipation, and it has a thermal dissipation of 10.91 BTU/Hour. This module has open circuit detection capability, which helps detect an open condition in the module’s circuitry, and it also provides up to 24 Volt DC overvoltage protection. The 1756-OF4 is digitally programmed to provide a current limit of up to 21 milliAmpere or less to protect against short-circuit, and it offers users a drive capability of 2000 Ohms (Voltage) or 0 to 750 Ohms (Current).
It requires 12-month interval field calibration, and it is calibrated with an accuracy better than 0.05% over 4 to 21 milliAmpere/-10.4 to 10.4 Volt DC range. The 1756-OF4 has maximum offset drift of 50 microVolts per degree Celsius, with a gain drift of 25 ppm/degree Celsius (voltage)/50 ppm/ degrees Celsius (current), and it has 1 millisecond maximum scan time for integer data format type and 2 milliseconds for floating point data format type. The 1756-OF4 has a 250 Volt AC voltage isolation between output channel to the backplane using reinforced insulation type, tested at 1350 Volt AC for 2 seconds, and it is electronically keyed to the controllogix chassis via digital control. It is mechanically keyed to the removable terminal block with mounting torque of 1.36 Newtons per meter (12 pounds on an inches), and it has 22 to 14 AWG stranded/solid copper wire as field side wire conductor. The 1756-OF4 has T4A and T4 North America and ATEX rated temperature code, and it has an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 degree Celsius (32 to 140 degree Fahrenheit). It is designed to withstand 30G operational shock, and it is KCFM, EX, CE, C-TICK, CSA, and UL certified.

The 1756-OF4 module is a ControlLogix non-isolated analog output module that has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley. The main function of this kind of output module is to interface modules that can convert analog signals to digital values. This is useful when these signals need to be used later by a controller for control purposes. Some of the main features of this module are removal and insertion under power (RIUP), producer and consumer communication rolling timestamp of data, multiple data formats, module resolution, and onboard features. Through all these features, the 1756-OF4 analog output module can perform different functions that help to optimize application time in a machine.
Before starting operations with the Allen-Bradley 1756-OF4 non-isolated analog output module, it is important to establish a data format. The data formats can define the format of the channel data that is sent from the controller to the module and that determines the features that are available to the application. Additionally, before selecting a data format, a communication format needs to be chosen. The data formats available are an integer data mode and a floating-point data mode. The Allen-Bradley 1756-OF4 non-isolated analog output module comes with a ramping and rate-limiting function. This security function helps prevent fast transitions in the output from damaging different devices connected to it. Other functions that come with the Allen-Bradley 1756-OF4 non-isolated analog output module are a hold for initialization feature and an open wire detection feature, and there is also a clamping and limiting function that limits the output from the analog module to keep it within a range that has been previously configured by the controller.
