The Allen-Bradley 1756-M1 is a memory module designed for use with ControLogix systems. It is used to enhance the memory that is available on a ControlLogix controller. One memory module can be installed per controller. The 1756-M1 provides 512 KB of memory. It is compatible with the 1756-L1 and the 1756-L1Mx series controllers. When installing or replacing a 1756-M1 module, it is essential to guard it against ESD damage by following the recommended precautions including discharging static by touching a grounded object, wearing a grounded wrist strap, avoiding touching the pins and the boards on the memory module and by storing unused modules in anti-static bags. To install or replace the 1756-M1, a sequence of steps needs to be followed. The first step is removing the controller from the I/O chassis. While the controller can be removed with chassis power on, it is recommended to disconnect the power before removing the controller. After the controller has been removed, the side plate on the controller needs to be removed. Any existing memory module (if installed) is then removed and then the new memory module can be installed. The side plate is then put in place and the controller is reinserted into the chassis.
The 1756-M1 is an open module. The 1756-M1 memory module performs according to the specifications in an environment where the ambient temperature is in a temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius and where the relative humidity is between 5 and 95%. The module should be stored in an area with temperature range between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius. The operating and storage specifications for the shock level are 30G and 50G, respectively. The specifications for the vibration level are 2G at 10 to 500 Hertz.
