The Allen-Bradley 1756-L55M16 is an advanced controller module for ControlLogix systems. The 1756-L55M16 may be installed in any slot of a 1756 I/O chassis. The programming languages available for the programming of the 1756-L55M16 include the SFC, ladder, and structured text. The memory for the user data on the 1756-L55M16 is 7.5 MB. The user data memory operates on power drawn from the battery modules. At 25 degrees Celsius, the 1756-BA1 battery module provides power for at least 13 days, whereas the 1756-BATM/1756-BATA battery modules provide power for at least 133 days. Nonvolatile memory is not provided on the 1756-L55M16. If non-volatile memory is required, optional 1784-CF64 (64 MB) or 1784-CF128 (128 MB) CompactFlash modules need to be ordered. Memory for the I/O is available and its capacity is 208 KB.
One serial RS-232 port is available on the 1756-L55M16 which supports DH-485, ASCII, and DF1 protocols. Optional communication modules including the ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet, and the Remote I/O modules can be ordered separately if required. The 1756-L55M16 should be inserted or removed from the chassis after the chassis power has been switched off. The module is sensitive to ESD and therefore ESD prevention guidelines should be followed while it is being handled. The 1756-L55M16 is an open-style module. The operating temperature range of the 1756-L55M16 is from 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The storage temperature range is from -40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The 1756-L55M16 draws 1.48 Amps (5 Volts) or 14 milliamps (24 Volts) of current from the I/O chassis backplane. The thermal dissipation of the module can go up to 21.5 BTU/hour and the maximum power dissipated can go up to 6.3 Watts.
