The 1756-A4 is a ControlLogix I/O chassis based module manufactured by Allen-Bradley. The module belongs to the ControlLogix series and it is used for the 1756 I/O modules. The 1756-A4 is designed for the horizontal-only back panel mounting position and it offers a high-speed communication path between the modules. With the high-speed communication path, the 1756-A4 is able to distribute power to each of the modules within the chassis. When it comes to power dissipation, the 1756-A4 offers a maximum of 4 Watts and the power consumption is 1.8 Watts. The maximum backplane current is 1.5 Amps at 1.2 Volts DC, 4 Amps at 3.3 Volts DC, 15 Amps at 5.1 Volts DC, and 2.8 Amps at 24 Volts DC. For communication, the 1756-A4 uses an EtherNet/IP Network and also the ControlNet Network. The operating temperature for the 1756-A4 is 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit while the storage temperature is –40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit.
Another important feature that comes with the 1756-A4 standard chassis is the time stamping capabilities for the SOE application purposes. The 1756-A4 needs an RTB or Bulletin 1492 Wiring IFM to connect all the field side wirings. The Studio 5000 Logix Designer Application algorithm is used for programming the 1756-A4. The Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) feature is also another important feature for the 1756-A4 standard chassis. The RIUP feature enables easy maintenance and it is one of the important features included in the 1756-A4. The 1756-A4 has electronic keying feature like the other ControlLogix chassis. The electronic keying feature helps in preventing the replacement errors and therefore it is included as a preventive maintenance feature. The 1756-A4 has a comprehensive diagnostic feature that helps in identifying faults and so it is an easy module to maintain. In a nutshell, the 1756-A4 is compact, cost effective, and it is easily compatible with PanelView operator devices.
