About 1769-L38ERM

The Allen-Bradley 1769-L38ERM is a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC). This controller is part of the CompactLogix 5370 L3 Controllers capable of implementing manual and automatic control of machines and processes whether binary or analog control. This controller is also capable of motion control, ideal for use in manufacturing assembly lines as well. CompactLogix controllers including the 1769-L38ERM has a rackless design which enables flexibility of installation as well as simplified expansion. It can be installed directly to a DIN rail or mounting plate and allows vertical or horizontal expansion. CompactLogix controllers require a power supply to distribute required power to the backplane. The 1769-L38ERM attaches to this backplane and draws current from the connection to energize the controllers circuitry. Compatible power supply for this controller are 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4, and 1769-PB4. The controllers bus current draw is 850 mA at 5VDC power and 700 mA at 24VDC controller power. The 1769-L38ERM is delivered with an internal memory amounting to 5MB volatile, user memory. This memory area contains the user program, controller and tag data. It cannot be upgraded replaced. It is maintained by an internal energy storage solution circuitry, eliminating the need of a battery. Additionally, a Secure Digital (SD) Card is shipped with the controller with catalog number 1784-SD1 with memory size of 1GB, non-volatile memory. This removable storage allows user program and other data to be transferred to the volatile memory area each time the controller reboots. It may also be used to transfer controller data from other CompactLogix controllers. The 1784-SD1 may be upgraded ad replaced with the use of 1784-SD2 which is a 2GB SD memory card. The 1769-L38ERM does not come with embedded input and output channels. It must be installed with 1769 Compact I/O modules to serve as local I/O expansion. This CompactLogix controller supports installation of up to Thirty-One (31) Compact I/O modules which may also be distributed strategically in up to Three (3) expansion I/O banks. This controller also comes with Two (2) Ethernet communication ports that carry same traffic as these ports are technically embedded ethernet switches. Standard Cat5 or Cat6 cables with RJ45 connectors terminated on both ends are required to establish connection to the physical Ethernet interface. Supported topologies of the embedded ethernet are Device Level Ring (DLR) or ring topology which features network resiliency. It also supports Linear and Star topologies for simple communication requirements. It is capable of establishing up to Eighty (80) Ethernet nodes. Nodes may include programming workstation, Visualization systems such as Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), OPC servers, Tools, databases, 3rd party devices, protocol converters, gateways among others. Supported data transmission speeds are 10/100 Mbps with auto-negotiation capability. The motion control capability of the controller enables Velocity, Torque and Position control of Allen-Bradley Kinetix drives such as Kinetix 350, Kinetix 5500, Kinetix 5700, and Kinetix 650. Velocity, Torque, Position and Frequency may also be implemented using PowerFlex 755 drive. This controller is capable of implementing motion control in maximum of Sixteen (16) axes.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-L38ERM is a CompactLogix controller that belongs to the 5370 L3 CompactLogix family. This controller has 5 Mbyte memory, Dual Ethernet communication port and One (1) USB port. It supports 80 Ethernet nodes, Thirty-One (31) 1769 Compact I/O modules and features integrated motion capability supporting up to Sixteen (16) axes.
