The Allen-Bradley 1769-L37ERMS is a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) that is manufactured by Allen-Bradley. This controller belongs to the 5370 Compact GuardLogix product family that is capable of implementing discrete and analog controls in manual and automatic mode with integrated safety. This control is applicable for use in wide variety of applications such as Factory and Process automation. The 1769-L37ERMS CompactLogix controller is capable of has 4MB volatile memory that is maintained by the internal energy storage. This energy storage circuitry eliminates the need of battery, which significantly lessens the possibility of losing the contents of the user memory when battery charge is drained however, the possibility remains as the energy storage may fail as well, which is where the non-volatile 1769-SD1 Secure Digital (SD) card may be put into use. The non-volatile memory may be used to load the user program every time the controller is power cycled. The non-volatile memory does not require an external energy to maintain contents. The SD card has a small sliding switch which pertains to locked and unlocked position. With the position in unlocked position, the memory card data may be read and written while when in locked position, data is read-only. The controller also has a 1.5 MB safety memory. This memory area is exclusively used for safety application. The controller is certified for use in Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 and Performance Level (e) safety application requirements. Human Machine Interface (HMI) device may also be used with this controller. The HMI is able to access the controller standard tags for read and write functionalities while the safety tag may only be read by the HMI unit. Compact GuardLogix requires power supply to operate the controller. Compatible power supply for the 1769-L37ERMS include 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4, and 1769-PB4. The controller supports installation of up to Thirty (30) 1769 Compact I/O modules which can be distributed in a maximum of Three (3) Compact I/O banks. Distributed I/O architecture may be implemented over Ethernet I/P of Devicenet network. Typically used Distributed I/O platfors are 1794 Flex I/O and 1734 POINT I/O modules. The controller is also provided with a reset button which when pressed and held in during controller power-up, clears the program in the user memory from the internal memory and the safety partner. The 1769-L37ERMS also supports communication with other controller to send messages when Remote I/O system cannot be implemented. Compatible controller messaging partners are 1756 ControlLogix, 1756 GuardLogix, CompactLogix 5370, 1768-L4x CompactLogix, 1769-L3x CompactLogix, 1769-L23x CompactLogix, 1789 SoftLogix 5800, 1794 FlexLogix, PowerFlex with DriveLogix, 1785 PLC-5, 1747 SLC, 1761 MicroLogix, 1762 MicroLogix, 1763 MicroLogix, and 1764 MicroLogix. The motion control capability of the 1769-L37ERMS supports up to Sixteen (16) motion control axes. Drives that may be used controlled over Ethernet I/P includes Kinetix 350, Kinetix 5500, Kinetix 5700, and Kinetix 6500 drives for application such as Position, Velocity and Torque control.
