About 1769-CRR3

The 1769 CompactLogix component with catalog number 1769-CRR3 is a CompactLogix bus expansion cable. This expansion cable is used to install an I/O expansion bank for CompactLogix controllers and MicroLogix 1500 controller platform. Expansion banks are cost-effective and modular solution that allows installation of additional Compact I/O modules to meet specific control system requirements. I/O banks may be used to install additional Input and output modules, communication modules, specialty modules and even Address Reserve Module (ARM). With the use of 1769-CRR3, an expansion distance of 3.28 ft. or 1 m may be achieved with a maximum of Three (3) I/O banks for 1769 CompactLogix and One (1) I/O bank for MicroLogix 1500 controller system. The number of supported 1769 Compact I/O modules vary depending on the type of 1769 CompactLogix Controller used. Supported amount varies from Sixteen (16) Compact I/O and Thirty (30) Compact I/O modules. With a MicroLogix 1500 controller, up to Eight (8) Compact I/O modules may be used. The 1769-CRR3 is a communication I/O bus expansion allows right bank to right bank expansion however, it doesnt necessarily mean that the expansion may should literally follow the expansion cables description. It may still be installed from top to bottom, depending on the available space in the enclosure. The expansion direction simply refers to the expansion interface located at the rightmost part of the rack. This expansion cable extends only the communication backplane but does not provide power to the next I/O bank. To make an expansion I/O bank functional, it should have a dedicated power supply. Electrical arc may occur when the expansion module is installed to an I/O bank that is actively supplied with power. Some modules or application may tolerate electrical arcs however, it is strongly advised to install the expansion cable while the CompactLogix system are without power. Electrical arcs may damage the local electronic circuitry and nearby modules. In Hazardous areas and areas with presence of combustible gasses, electrical arcs are not allowed. Aside from damage to module, electrical arcs may cause damage to connection pins which are the physical interface of the backplane. Electrical arcs overall may cause unintended or unwanted machine and process movement or operation, injury to personnel, explosion and unplanned shutdown. The 1769-CRR3 is also sensitive to static charge. Before working with electronic components such as CompactLogix and the communication bus expansion cable, discharge static potential by touching a grounded object; If available, wear an approved wrist-strap grounding device. Avoid touching connector pins and electronic circuitry as well as the components installed in the circuit board. Working in a static-safe or properly grounded workstation is also advised before working with the bus expansion cable. If the cable is intended as a spare unit, keep the expansion bus cable within the anti-static bag if not in use. Splicing of expansion cable is not permitted. Expansion cable wire breaks may be caused by extreme bending of the cable. Observe proper bending radius to prevent unnecessary wire stress that may lead to wire breaks. Install cable as straight as possible and use cable fixing accessories to fix the cable position into place.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-CRR3 is a 1769 Compact I/O Communication bus expansion cable. intended for the CompactLogix platforms. This cable allows implementation of CompactLogix I/O banks. This module is a Right bank-to-Right bank expansion cable with 3.28 ft. or 1 m.

F.A.Q for 1769-CRR3

Q: 1. What is the expansion length supported by the 1769-CRR3?A: The 1769-CRR3 cable length is 3.28 ft. or 1 m.
Q: 2. Do I need a CompactLogix power supply for each expansion bank?A: Yes, a dedicated power supply is required.
Q: 3. How many 1769-CRR3 is permitted for use? A: Using MicroLogix 1500, only One (1) 1769-CRR1 may be used. For 1769 CompactLogix, up to Two (2) expansion cables which translates to up to Three (3) I/O banks.

PDFsupply Tech

The 1769-CRR3 is a Compact I/O bus expansion communication cable. This bus expansion cable covers longer expansion distance of 3.28 ft. compared to the 1769-CRR1 which allows 1 ft expansion only. It extends the 1769 and MicroLogix controllers communication bus in Right bank-to-Right bank expansion direction to allow implementation of expanded I/O.
