About 1769-CRL1

The Allen-Bradley 1769-CRL1 is a Compact I/O bus expansion cable. This expansion cable is used with the 1769 CompactLogix family of controllers. It enables installation of I/O banks in right bank-to-left bank direction. This expansion cable measures 1 ft. or 305 mm. Up to Two (2) expansion cables may be used in a 1769 system and One (1) bus expansion cable for MicroLogix 1500 controllers. Expansion I/O banks are installed to accommodate additional I/O modules. Typically, up to Three (3) expansion I/O banks may be installed per controller however, the no. of 1769 Compact I/O modules depends on the controller. There are controllers that support up to Sixteen (16) Compact I/O modules and there are also particular controller models that support up to Thirty (30) Compact I/O modules. The 1769-CRL1 may be used to extend the CPU bank to an I/O bank or I/O bank to another I/O bank. The bus extension cable simply extends the communication bus that is responsible for data exchange such as transmit and receive of I/O and controller data. Each I/O bank shall have a dedicated power supply to power the modules installed in the particular bank. During cable installation, power must be removed. Electric arc may occur if expansion bus cables are installed under power. This electric arc may damage the electronic board and nearby modules and may cause wear and tear to the contacts that produces resistance which may affect module connectivity. When installing the bus expansion cable, touch a grounded object to discharge static potential; Wear an approved wrist-strap grounding device; Never touch the bus connector or connector pins; Avoid touching electronic circuitry as well as the components installed in the circuit board; Work in a static-safe or properly grounded workstation and keep the expansion bus cable within the anti-static bag if not in use. The 1769-CRL1 is a low maintenance component. If properly installed, the cable should operate for a long period of time. However, the cable must still be installed inside an enclosure to protect from elements which may cause brittleness of the cable insulation. Additionally, excessive cable bend radius must be avoided to avoid unnecessary wire stress which may break the conductors within the cable assembly. In cases of repeated loss of communication, confirm the power supply output and connections. Contacts should be clean and not loose. Splicing of expansion cable conductors are not permitted as this may cause intermittent communication which in turn may cause unwanted machine operation, injury, damage to equipment, explosion or process shutdown. When the bus expansion cable is used with a MicroLogix 1500 system, only One (1) expansion cable, One (1) expansion power supply, and up to Eight (8) I/O modules may be used allowing which may be distributed in Two (2) banks of I/O modules. Vibration and shock may cause the 1769-CRL1 connection to loosen overtime. Regularly inspect the integrity of connection as well as prevent excessive vibration and shock. Install appropriate shock and vibration limiting devices as well. The bus expansion cable is designed for operating shock of 30G when panel mounted and 20G when DIN rail mounted while operating vibration range is 10 to 500 Hz, 5G, 0.030 inches maximum peak-to-peak.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-CRL1 is a 1769 Compact I/O Communication bus expansion cable. intended for the CompactLogix platforms. This cable allows implementation of CompactLogix I/O banks. This module is a Right bank-to-left bank expansion cable with 1 ft. (305 mm).
