The 1769-ASCII module is a compact I/O ASCII module that has been manufactured by Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation and included in the Allen-Bradley 1769 series. This ASCII module comes with 2 channels that work for general-purpose applications and it provides a flexible network interface. This module can be used with different devices that are compatible with the RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422 ASCII network. The 1769-ASCII compact ASCII I/O module channels are independent of one another, and this means their functioning is independent and their backplane is also isolated. Each of these channels comes with 3 different media interfaces and the connections are done through a 9-pin D-sub connector.
The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1769-ASCII compact ASCII I/O module is compatible with controllers in the CompactLogix 5370 L3 and L2, 1769-L2x, L3x and 1768-L4x, and Micrologix 1500 series. The physical parts of the module are an upper and lower DIN rail latch, upper and lower tongue and groove slots, 2 isolated ASCII connector channels, and a stationary bus connector with male pins. This module is suitable to operate in industrial environments when installed according to the instructions in its manual, specifically a dry environment with a pollution rating of Pollution Degree 2 and circuits below the Overvoltage Category II standard. The module needs to be attached to a controller or adjacent I/O module before mounting.
