About 1768-PB3

The Allen-Bradley 1768-PB3 is a Power supply module used with 1768 CompactLogix rack and expansion I/O banks. The output of this power supply module is distributed via the CompactLogix backplane which is distributed to energize CompactLogix modules to perform according to their designed functionality. The power supply has also an output that may be used to supply user terminal blocks intended for I/O energization. The 1768-PB3s input voltage supply requirement is 16.8-31.2VDC with maximum input power of 112 W @ 24V dc. This power supply module is designed for 30 A @ 16.8-31.2VDC and capable of withstanding a maximum inrush current of 50 A @ 16.8-31.2VDC. The modules continuous output power is 3.5 A for 24VDC backplane and 0.25 A for user terminal block at 90W and 0.25 A at 6W minimum. The module power supply is designed with 80% efficiency typical at 24VDC. It has an open type of enclosure which means the module must be installed within an enclosure that offers adequate protection to environmental contaminants and noises. Contaminants such as dirt, dust, grease, corrosive air, water splash and jets must be prevented from entering the enclosure to protect not only the power supply but the entire CompactLogix rack as well. Additionally, operating temperature must be maintained at 0-60 C or 32-140 F. Appropriate climate control devices such as heaters and coolers may be installed with consideration to the module and other components thermal dissipation. The 1768-PB3 is designed with a mounting latch that connects to a standard DIN rail. Mounting clearance must be observed to ensure air can flow naturally for ventilation. Installation clearances are 90 mm or 3.54 inches of space to the left of the power supply; 90 mm or 3.54 inches of space to the right of last module in the bank and 105 mm or 4 inches of space on the top and bottom of the bank. The 1768-PB3 has an internal Overcurrent protection via the internally installed, non-replaceable fuse rated at 46 A @ 28.536.7 A2 S. The modules maximum overcurrent protection is 15A. This power supply module also has an isolation voltage rated at 250V, Reinforced Insulation Type, input to system and 24V dc AUX, Tested at 4250V dc for 60 s 150V, Basic Insulation Type, 24V dc AUX to system, Tested at 2200V dc for 60 s. The 1768 CompactLogix is specifically designed to function with 1768 CompactLogix controllers such as 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 controllers and modules. It is also used with expansion banks that uses 1769 Compact I/O modules as remote or expansion I/O modules. With 1768 CompactLogix, the reference of the power supply distance rating is the controller. This means that the Power Supply distance rating in 1768 CompactLogix refers to the distance of the module from the controller. In 1769 CompactLogix, the reference of the distance rating is the power supply which means the distance refers to the distance of the module to the power supply. The distance rating must be followed accordingly to qualify the operation of the system.
The Allen-Bradley 1768-PB3 is a 1768 CompactLogix Power Supply. This module supplies backplane power to the 1768 CompactLogix rack and power to the front panel terminal blocks. It requires an input voltage range of 16.8-31.2VDC with a continuous output power of 3.5 A for 24VDC backplane and 0.25 A for user terminal block at 90W and 0.25 A at 6W minimum.
